How to Play Truth or Drink
Basic Rules
- Players sit in a circle (or face each other if playing with two).
- One player asks another player a question.
- The person asked must either answer the question honestly or take a drink to skip it.
- Play passes to the next person, who now asks someone else a question.
- No lying. If the group catches you in a lie, you finish your drink.

- Who here would be the worst roommate?
- What is the meanest thing you have thought about someone in this room?

Variations and House Rules
- Shot Clock: Players have 10 seconds to decide — answer or drink. No stalling.
- Double Down: If someone drinks to skip, the next person can ask a follow-up question on the same topic. Skip again and you take two drinks.
- Veto Card: Each player gets one free pass per game — they can skip a question without drinking once.
- Group Vote: After someone answers, the group votes on whether they think the answer was truthful. Majority says lie? That person drinks.
- Dare Option: Instead of drinking to skip, a player can choose to do a dare decided by the group.
Tips for Playing Truth or Drink
- Read the room. Start with lighter questions and build up. Do not open with the most intense question on the list.
- Respect boundaries. If someone drinks to skip, do not pressure them to answer anyway. That defeats the whole point of the game.
- Keep drinks light. Beer, wine, or mixed drinks work much better than shots for this game. You will be drinking often.
- Mix in funny questions. Not every question needs to be deep or revealing. Silly questions keep the mood fun.
- Works great online. Truth or Drink is one of the best games for video calls since it does not require any physical setup.
